Minister Orr Media Release: Launching INVOLVED – the ACT Disability Commitment on I-Day

03 December 2019

On the International Day of People with Disability, I am proud to launch INVOLVED - the website that demonstrates the ACT Commitment to people with disability. It provides tools that will assist the community, business and government sectors to be more inclusive of people with disability.

The new INVOLVED web platform is a refresh of the former INVOLVE website, reshaping the focus from ambitions for inclusion to actions and achievements. It will serve as a contemporary communication tool capable of reporting to our community in real time, while Canberra powers forward as the most inclusive city in Australia.

Inclusion initiatives in the ACT are highlighted on the website under a set of headings that represent the outcome areas outlined in the National Disability Strategy. These headings are:

  • Inclusive and accessible communities
  • Rights protection, justice and legislation
  • Housing
  • Personal and community support
  • Learning and skills
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Employment and volunteering
  • Transport

This format enables the community to find out about the implementation of the National Disability Strategy in the ACT in each of the priority areas. It provides information on various initiatives and examples under each category as well as videos and links to resources.

Minister Orr said “I am pleased to share with the community this fantastic new website. It is an invaluable resource for discovering the ways in which business and community are committed to a fair and inclusive Canberra.

Special thanks go to our partners in the community who provided feedback on the new INVOLVED website, helping make the website user friendly and accessible. The Office for Disability welcomes suggestions, as well as contributions, to the interactive calendar and news feed.

Inclusion is something we all need to work together to achieve and this website is an invaluable resource for finding out what steps our whole community is taking. I encourage everyone to read the latest news and events and get involved by posting your upcoming events and activities and sharing the site with colleagues, friends and family.”

Canberra peak disability organisations provided feedback on INVOLVED, with one provider saying,

“I look forward to being able to utilise the inbuilt calendar function so we can register our disability-focused events or training. The news feed is also a great feature so we can receive updates on the latest activities in inclusion”
