Media Release: Significant step forward for Giralang Shops

26 April 2018

I am pleased to see today the notification of the development application for Giralang Shops and the works associated with this development.

This is a significant milestone for the project and brings the realisation of shops for the Giralang community one step closer.

The developer undertook an extensive consultation process as required under the ACT Government’s new Pre DA Community Consultation Guidelines, and I am pleased to see the community’s views have been incorporated into the development application.

The DA notification period provides a further opportunity for the community to have their say on the project before the independent planning and land authority make their decision.

I would like to thank the developer for his recent action to engage with the community on the project and thank all Giralang residents who have had their say on what they want their shops and Community Park to look like.

The Giralang community has long been calling to be included in the discussion on this development and since I have been advocating on their behalf I am thrilled to see the developer taking this important step

The development application also provides details for civil works including new off-site and on-street parking to Menkar Close that will benefit people who will use the shops and the Giralang Community Park.

I am also looking forward to the developer securing a supermarket tenant as part of the development process so the community has access to a quality supermarket within the suburb.

As the local member for Yerrabi I am passionate about ensuring our part of Canberra is invested in and that we have quality facilities for our communities to use.

The development application can be viewed here. The period for representations closes 18 May 2018.
